Three years ago, I completed this project during my time at Raffles Design Institute in Singapore. It remains one of the most challenging, exciting, and rewarding projects I’ve ever undertaken.
Inspired by Surrealism, I sought to blend its exploration of hidden thoughts and eccentricity with the art of jewellery design. Surrealism often embraces unconventional beauty and altered perceptions, with many surrealist artists creating their works under the influence of drugs. This realisation inspired me to incorporate opium and the poppy flower into my designs, symbolising the link between creativity and altered states of mind. The octopus, with its mystery and sensuality, further influenced my work, reflecting the surrealists’ fascination with eroticism and the unconventional.
Through this collection, I aimed to spark curiosity and challenge traditional boundaries, crafting a bold, dreamlike narrative in jewellery. This project not only pushed me creatively but also profoundly shaped my design philosophy, leaving a lasting impact on my journey as a jewellery designer.
