I’ve often wondered about the journey of jadeite jade - a gemstone formed over millions of years with earth’s deep patience, carved and polished into treasures. Yet, what happens to the pieces deemed too flawed to sell? The fragments once cherished, now overlooked and discarded. How can something so precious lose its value simply because it’s imperfect?
I grew up in Myanmar, in a community where jadeite jade isn’t just a stone — it’s a way of life. My father worked with jadeite miners, carefully selecting rough stones, shaping them, polishing them to reveal hidden beauty. As a child, I often watched him at work, fascinated by how something so raw could transform into something so precious.
Yet behind that beauty, I also saw a reality that never left me. For many families in my home region, jade mining is their main source of income — but it’s unpredictable and risky, like a gamble. When miners find gem-quality jade, they often have to sell quickly, at unfair prices, just to make ends meet. Despite dedicating so much of their lives to this remarkable stone, many never even get the chance to wear or truly enjoy jadeite themselves.
This is why I created Seng Noi.
“Seng” means jadeite jade. “Noi” means abundance.
To me, it means more than jewellery — it means changing the story.
At Seng Noi, I design bold, modern fine jewellery that honours jadeite jade’s rich heritage while giving it a fresh, contemporary voice for a new generation. Each piece is made with traceable jadeite jade from my family’s mine and ethically sourced coloured gemstones like rubies, sapphires, and spinels — all carefully crafted into timeless designs that carry stories worth wearing.
But Seng Noi is about more than creating beautiful jewellery. It’s about giving back. That’s why I reinvest 5% of our profits into social, educational, and environmental projects supporting the miners and families behind the stones. Through this sustainable cycle of fair value and opportunity, I hope to bring pride and lasting change to my community — honouring our heritage in the truest sense.
